ABOUT DOUG

Screen shot 2013-10-27 at 1.29.54 PMDoug Fairbanks is a dedicated and highly respected Strength and Conditioning Coach, who has been working in the sports performance, nutrition coaching, and health fitness industries extensively for 20 years.  His experiences have allowed him the privilege of training and consulting with thousands of clients.  These clients include athletes of all ages and skill levels, anyone needing to rebuild after injury, and those looking to transform their physique.  His primary focus has been assisting high school and college athletes in remaining injury free while managing their physical development, with the ultimate goal of achieving a higher level of performance.   He writes progressive and adaptive programs designed to meet specific strength and athletic needs and collaborates with coaches, support staff, and the athletes to merge philosophies, improve behavior modification, and achieve maximum program impact.

Three years ago Doug finished a 7 year role as Director of Sports Performance for The College of Charleston, a Division I college in Charleston, South Carolina.  He was responsible for overseeing the physical preparation of all teams, with a primary management responsibility for men’s baseball, men’s basketball, and women’s volleyball.  During his tenure, the college experienced its greatest success as a division I sports program.  40 athletes from 4 sports went on to play professionally; 23 baseball athletes were drafted (6 in top 10 rounds) most notably Brett Gardner, present outfielder for the NY Yankees; also included were 3 soccer players, 1 volleyball and 13 basketball players.  Additionally, the baseball team made 5 NCAA tournament appearances, the basketball team won the Great Alaska Shootout and made the NIT Tournament in 2003, and women’s volleyball made 7 straight NCAA tournament appearances.

Also while living in Charleston, Doug worked for Cenegenics Medical Institute as a Nutrition and Exercise Consultant.  Cenegenics is a world leader in age management medicine.  He performed strength, flexibility, and VO2 Max testing, in addition to planning nutrition and supplement strategies during one on one education sessions with clients.

Prior to his roles in Charleston, he was Founder and Director of Exceleration Sports Training, an athlete-training center for committed athletes located on the South Shore of Massachusetts.  During his tenure he trained hundreds of high school and college athletes.  Most notably 3 hockey players were drafted into the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 (Mike Ryan, 32nd overall pick) & 2000, while 3 others signed as free agents and are presently playing or have recently retired.

His education includes a degree in Exercise Science and Coaching from Springfield College in Springfield, MA.  He has been certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association since 1995.  He has attended hundreds of seminars and performed numerous internships with respected practitioners in the field of strength training, sport performance, holistic health, and supplementation and is currently continuing his training in nutrition and applied kinesiology.
